Friday Faves

July 29, 2011

I’ve got to tell you, this summer so far has been a little bit disappointing. We’ve had  a few sunny days, but not as many as we should have. Now that it’s almost August, I’m hoping (and praying and crossing my fingers… and toes) that the sun decides to come out and cheer up this dreary little Northwest corner of the US that is being left out of the news-making scorcher everyone else is going through. Here are some of the things that have kept me smiling during this “bummer summer” so far.

The Kennedys Mini-Series: My husband and I watched this over the course of a few dreary weekends and it. is. so. good. I love dramas that are created off of real-life people and events. Fascinating take on what could have been during that time frame in that family. Photo Source.

DIY Rubber Stamps: I just recently saw this DIY article and think I’ll have to give them a try. The look like such a quick and fun little craft project that you can pick up super cheap supplies for and have unique cards or wrapping paper in just a short time.

New season of Flipping Out: I love this show. It is always so hilarious and fascinating at the same time. It never ceases to amaze me how eccentric and wildly crazy Jeff Lewis (and his staff) is. Photo Source.

Easy Lollipop Tutorial: I came across this tutorial last week and thought.. oh, why didn’t I think of that.. I have a bag of root beer flavored hard candies sitting in my kitchen calling my name right now for this project!

Yoga: Since the weather has been meh, I’ve made sure I’m still moving and found my way back to yoga again. I always forget how much I love to do it. I’ve never been to a class, but follow along some exercise DVD’s or just do it without instruction. It’s one of those few things that get me back in a great mood whatever the weather is like. Happy Friday, friends! Hope you have a great weekend!

Friday Faves

July 22, 2011

This Friday is a particularly exciting Friday for me. It’s the first sleepover we’ll be having with one of our nieces. We’ve told my sister and brother-in-law for years that we would have their girls over when two things happened: 1) we moved into a place that was large enough to accomodate them sleeping, and 2) when they were potty-trained. Being that the youngest one isn’t quite there yet on the potty-training, we thought it would be fun to have one houseguest tonight and do all the fun aunt and uncle things before sending her back home. We also see it as a fun one-on-one experience that we rarely get with her.. she’s almost always putting on some sort of show or another to overshadow her little sister (I’m no stranger to this as I was the little sister). Here are some of the fun ideas we have in store for one of two of our favorite nieces:

Blueberry Pancakes: When I was a kid, I always thought it was so special to stay at someone’s house and anything outside of the norm.. like blueberries in my pancakes would make me feel like a million bucks. We’ll make up a batch of these before we take her home. Image Source.

Outdoor Picnic: Depending on the activities for the day and the attitudes at night, we might venture out to the park to eat a picnic dinner.. or we might venture out to the balcony and do the same. Image Source.

Games: My niece love technology (she’s a master at her mom’s ipad.. yes, at 4), but I think being out of her element she’ll want to do more hands on activities with us. I have in store a few games that we can play to pass the time and spend some quality time together. Image Source.

Crafts: If the games and picnic don’t go over well, I have up my sleeve a few craft ideas to keep us all busy and having fun together. Doing something a little bit different is fun for all of us. Image Source.

Making Dessert: I’ve always wanted to make cookies with my sweet nieces, but weather permitting, we might have to whip up a colder treat instead! Image Source.

Friday Faves

July 15, 2011

Here I am again, dreaming about the accessories that I’d be taking along on a trip if I were to be taking one. I sound pathetic, don’t I? Can you tell I’m dying to get out of town before the weather changes again? If I were to go on a dream trip tomorrow, I would probably be headed out for a two week stay split between London and Paris. It’s next on my “to accomplish in life” list. I would love to wander around the streets with this bag and always be able to find my luggage with this pretty purple-hued luggage.

Airplane Blanket and Pillow: For the long flight to Europe, of course! The idea of sharing blankets or pillows with the hundreds who have sat in seats before me gives me the heeby-jeebies. This super soft looking set comes in a beautiful color and would keep me warm and comfortable along the way. Blanket & Pillow, $23.99, Amazon.com

Hanging Organizer: I love practical items that have beautiful prints on them. For some reason carrying around toiletries becomes that much more enjoyable, even though in the end… I’m just carrying around toiletries. I love this feminine floral print from Vera Bradley. This organizer opens up and hangs too, so once in my fantastic hotel in Paris, I’ll not only be stylish… but organized! Vera Bradley Hanging Organizer, $48, Amazon.com

Purple Luggage: Perfect to pick out of from the sea of black and navy luggage sets at the airport. I’m loving this color. Samsonite Women’s Xspace 21.5″ Expandable Spinner, $170.99, Amazon.com

Everyday Striped Bag: I could totally see myself stowing all my every day items into this bag and wandering around the streets, maybe on my way to a picnic, or maybe stuffed with more practical maps, a camera, and water. Sailor Tote Bag, $33, bayanhippo on etsy.com

Map-Inspired Passport Holder: Another one of those things that I would love just to own. Making something so mundane as a passport holder, not only easier to find in the depths of my everyday bag, but fun to look at too. Map-Inspired Passport Holder, $18, Amazon.com

If you were going on your dream trip tomorrow, where would it be?

Psst.. Check back a little later for the winner of the giveaway!

Friday Faves

July 1, 2011

I’m always drawn to more bright colors in the summertime – and with our move into July, I’ve been keeping my eyes open for anything in yellow. Yellow is one of those colors that pops up every year around this time, because it’s finally consistently sunny in my area, and it leaves me on the hunt for the perfect piece. Of course, summertime is the season for lemonade, so here are a few favorites in the lovely lemony shade.

Classic Lemonade: Great basic recipe from the goddess of ‘good things.’ Photo Source

Yellow Stationary: Love these little flowers on this fun and vibrant card set. Billy Balls Personalized Note Cards – Set of 16, leenmachine on etsy, $22.50.

Raspberry lemonade marshmallows: These sound delicious and decadent, and look amazing too! Organic Raspberry Lemonade Marshmallows by Have It Sweet, Haveitconfections on etsy, $$10.

Lemon Yellow Dress: I love the brightness and simplicity of this dress. No frills or anything fancy. Sweetheart Summer Dress, Forever 21, $19.80.

Yellow Purse: I could easily see this as a perfect finishing touch on a summer outfit with blues or greens in it. It’s so lively, and it even looks like it could double as a fashionable diaper bag, if you have little ones around. Nagy in Lemonade “pale yellow” – medium -, bayanhippo on etsy, $37.

I’ll be back a little later with some exciting news – Happy Friday!
